Let me tell you a little about myself so that you may better appreciate and understand where I am attempting to come from.
I am first and foremost a Franciscan Brother. I am a man that deeply appreciates and holds sacred the many journeys that people take in order to come to an understanding of what their true nature is. OUR GOD NATURE.
What does it mean to be a Franciscan Brother?
There are many ways in which the Franciscan life is lived, generally it has been from within the context of a Roman Catholic tradition and more recently experienced within the Anglican community
I have chosen to live my Franciscan life within an Interfaith frame. I am in friendship with those other traditions that welcome me in a spirit of friendship and inclusiveness.
This means that I live in Community, WITHOUT WALLS, with all those that live around me and with those that I have the privilege and honor of meeting, both within the Educational context of my life and my every day living.
My life as a Franciscan draws upon the Gospel life, a life lived out with an ever developing understanding and experience of the way in which Jesus himself asks us to live.
It is a simple life really, a life always surrendering to that which is good, a life of simplicity. I bring the message of the Gospel to all those that I meet, the stories in which Jesus himself encourages us to live. You may like to read these stories yourself, they are wonderful and deeply moving. There are also many other stories from other traditions that inspire our human journey. Stories of the Buddha, of Krishna, of Rumi. Read them yourself and be encouraged.
As you may have already noted I am a Teacher by Profession and have more recently completed a degree in Theology at Notre Dame University. These years of study have helped me gain insight into how both the Old Testament and the New Testament present themselves to the modern world, how the Catholic Church in part functions, how the lives of many men and women over past generations have contributed to what the Christian church is today. The scholars and saints, and the ordinary person.
Yet, I have also experienced and witnessed the "other" way in which men and women find what many of us call God.You may call it Source, or Enlightenment, or being Awakened, whatever name you call this magnificent journey. Whatever name you give to this Mystery of Mysteries. This life experience.
I have also experienced many other faith traditions from my journeys around the world, both participating in their particular tradition, speaking and in sharing.
I also do Pastoral Care, I am an active Celebrant, I teach, I take funerals, I council, I speak at Multifaith Gatherings, support mens workshops, take Retreats, meditate, practice healing, all within the framework of being a Franciscan. Always encouraging love to be in all that we say and do.
My commitment is foremost to my own personal spiritual journey, along with the participation in many types of ritual, within all of these faith path and traditions.I still enjoy much of my own catholic practice and am a regular attendee at the Mass. I also enjoy and love participating in other traditions as well.
I have had the privilege of living and working, as a Teacher and also as a visiting Franciscan to many places around the world. I have lived at Findhorn, in Scotland, doing Experience Week. I have shared my journey with those students at the Red Cross Nordic College, at Flekke in Norway. I have lived with the Druid community in Cornwall, taught in Rome as an English Teacher, as well as in Hong Kong, Japan, Papua New Guinea and both Central Australia and the Arnhem land area. I have lived with the Kryshna community in Germany and the Zen Buddhist community in Austria. My travels have shown me very clearly the multi coloured rainbow of the human life.
Each person wanting respect, love, a meal in their stomach, and a pillow to rest the head at night. A place to reflect, meditate or pray in the morning or evening.
Thankyou for taking time to read a little of my history, may the Lord bless you and keep you, may her countenance shine upon you and give you peace.
PLEASE PRAY FOR OUR NEW COMMUNITIES.
